When the financial markets have a rough spell, it certainly concerns me. A long bear market might jeopordize my job, it might affect the value of my house, and it even shows on the bottom line of my meager 401k and Etrade accounts. However, when you don’t have a lot of money, you can’t loose a lot of money. I can look at a day like today, when the markets were down around 3.5%, with interest and awe instead of nervousness and fear.
I don’t know what it’s like to have a million dollars, let alone hundreds of millions, but I can only imagine that no one enjoys seeing wealth evaporate as it did today, with the fear that it could possibly get worse.
So I present to you the following table of some high profile executives and how much paper wealth they lost today. I understand these are just meaningless numbers, however I can only imagine that there are quite a few financially well-off folks out there sweating a major market correction like we saw just six years ago. During the DotCom boom and bust, countless individuals watched their wildest dreams come true as they ammassed a fortune in stock options, only to see those fortunes disappear before they exercised them.
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala - A 330-foot-deep sinkhole killed at least two teenagers as it swallowed about a dozen homes early Friday and forced the evacuation of nearly 1,000 people in a crowded Guatemala City neighborhood. Officials blamed the sinkhole on recent rains and an underground sewage flow from a ruptured main.
The pit emitted foul odors, loud noises and tremors, shaking the surrounding ground. A rush of water could be heard from its depths, and authorities feared it could widen or others could open up.
Rescue operations were on hold until a firefighter, suspended from a cable, could take video and photos above the hole and officials could use the documentation to decide how to proceed.
The dead were identified as Irma and David Soyos, emergency spokesman Juan Carlos Bolanos said. Their bodies were found near the sinkhole, floating in a river of sewage.
Their father, Domingo, was still missing, according to disaster coordinator Hugo Hernandez.

A 13-year-old from South Jersey recently chose to reveal to a national audience that he’s transgendered.
His mother, Karina Mari, of Tom’s River, said at first she hoped it was a phase her daughter would grow out of. She said that hope ended a couple of years ago when her daughter made a chilling remark.
“(She said) she’d rather be dead than go to school as a girl. That was the hardest thing to hear,” said Karina Mari.
By the middle of sixth grade, Chris — still Julia at the time — had gotten so uncomfortable about not fitting in at school that his mom decided to homeschool him.
Julia began living as Chris after being diagnosed with gender identity disorder.
In seventh grade, he transferred as a boy to Toms River Intermediate South.
School administrators knew about his transgender identity, but his classmates didn’t find out until he and his mom decided to reveal all on The Tyra Banks Show last week.

A close friend of “American Idol” semi-finalist Antonella Barba says that the aspiring singer is not the subject of some graphically sexual pictures purported to be of her that were posted on the Internet last week.
The fallout has many young people here thinking twice about posing for photos they thought were just to be shared among friends.
“It’s the way this town is: Everybody knows everything about their friends,” said Mark Dillon, 17. “At least half the people in this town have pictures of their friends on the toilet. I’ve personally seen at least 20. It’s only because she’s on TV that they’re online.”

At least 11 people died and more than 100 people were injured at an annual spring festival in eastern Pakistan celebrated with the flying of thousands of colourful kites, officials said today.
The deaths and injuries were caused by stray bullets, sharpened kite-strings, electrocution and people falling off rooftops yesterday at the conclusion of the two-day Basant festival, said Ruqia Bano, spokeswoman for emergency service in the city of Lahore.

University costs in Australia have driven many female koalas to take sex-entertainment jobs just so they can get through school. “I make good money just for dancing around with my girlfriends” says one lesbian koala currently in law school who chose to remain anonymous. “One night here keeps my eucalyptus cabinet stocked for a month”.
