The Most Hated Family in America
I’ve read a few articles about the Phelps family over time, most recently this one which is an overview of sorts to the videos linked below.
I was raised believe in tolerance and forgiveness. I was tought that the freedom of speech was a right that shouldn’t be taken for granted.
Ironically, I was also taught that people from the South and Southwest are inferior to most of the rest of us, especially if they have accents. And parents that have 11 kids are usually only good at one thing.
In the fevered state of our country, no good can ever result from any attempt to set one of these fiery zealots to rights, either in fact or principle. They are determined as to the facts they will believe, and the opinions on which they will act. Get by them, therefore, as you would by an angry bull; it is not for a man of sense to dispute the road with such an animal.
